As discussed last time, visualization will keep you tethered to firm your belief on your optimized blueprint and increase your chances of achieving it. The power of visualization is available to all people.
So
Refer to Wikipedia, visualization is any technique for creating images, diagrams, or animations to communicate a message. Visualization through visual imagery has been an effective way to communicate both abstract and concrete ideas since the dawn of humanity ingenuity. Examples from history include cave paintings, Egyptian hieroglyphs, Greek geometry, and Leonardo da Vinci's revolutionary methods of technical drawing for engineering and scientific purposes.
Visualization today has ever-expanding applications in science, education, engineering (e.g., product visualization), interactive multimedia, medicine, etc. Typical of a visualization application is the field of computer graphics[Note1]. The development of animation also helped advance visualization.
According to research using brain imagery, visualization works because neurons in our brains, those electrically excitable cells that transmit information, interpret imagery as equivalent to a real-life action. When we visualize an act, the brain generates an impulse that tells our neurons to “perform” the movement. This creates a new neural pathway — clusters of cells in our brain that work together to create memories or learned behaviors — that primes our body to act in a way consistent to what we imagined. All of this occurs without actually performing the physical activity, yet it achieves a similar result.
If you think above analysis from biological prospective looked too complicated, we might put down the lens and think it from a more psychological way:
The subconscious mind accepts the thoughts that you often repeat. When it accepts them, it changes your mindset accordingly, as well as your habits and actions. This brings you into contact with new people, situations and circumstances.
Thoughts are endowed with a creative power that molds your life, and attracts what you think about.
Thoughts travel from one mind to another, and if they are strong enough, they can be unconsciously picked up by people, who are in a position to help you achieve your desires and goals.
Thought is energy, especially a focused thought, soaked with emotional energy. Thoughts change the balance of energy around us, and bring changes to the environment in accordance with them.
Most people think and repeat certain thoughts quite often. They focus their thoughts on their current environment and situation, and therefore, create and recreate the same sort of events and circumstances.
According to different subjects, there are two types of visualization, each of which serves a distinct purpose, but for greatest effect, they should be used together.
The first method is outcome visualization, involves envisioning yourself achieving your optimized blueprint or just a goal. To do this, create a detailed mental image of the desired outcome using all of your senses.
Let’s take an example and make it easier for understanding. Let’s say, your optimized blueprint is to run your first race in Shanghai International Marathon, visualize yourself crossing the finish tape in the time you desire. Hold that mental image as long as possible. What does it feel like to pass under the finishing banner, looking at stopwatch, the cool air flowing through your overheated body? Who is there to greet you as you finish? Your family? Friends? Other runners? Imagine the excitement, satisfaction, fatigue and sense of achievement you will experience...
Some people find it useful to write their goal down, and then, in as much detail as possible, translate it into a visual representation. It could be a hand-drawn picture, a photograph or a diagram. The media doesn’t matter, just as long as it helps you create a vivid mental image and stay motivated.
The second method of visualization is process visualization. It involves envisioning each of the actions necessary to achieve the blueprint you desire. Focus on completing each of the steps you need to achieve your goal, but not on the overall goal itself.
Back to the marathon example: Before the race, visualize yourself running well — legs pumping like pistons, arms relaxed, breathing controlled. In your mind, break the course into sections and visualize how you will run each part, thinking about your pace, gait and split time. Imagine what it will feel like when you hit “the critical point,” that point in the race where your body wants to stop, and more importantly, what you must do to break through it.
You may never, no necessity either, run a marathon. However, you can use the same principles to achieve any goal — create a vivid mental picture of yourself succeeding, envision what you must do during each step of the process and, like a runner breaking through “the critical point,” use positive mental imagery to stay focused and self-motivated when you experience obstacles or setbacks.
Visualization is not omnipotent and success is not guaranteed as inevitable outcome. Visualization also cannot replace hard work and practice. When combined with diligent effort and a strong support network, it is a powerful way to achieve positive, behavioral change and create the life you desire.
Make it a full body experience.
What do you see? What do you hear? How does it smell? How does it feel? Get all of your senses involved.
If you have trouble visualizing, get some multi-media help.
Find pictures on the internet of the things you want, print them and paste them on a vision board if you like. Find songs that inspire you and help you get into the daydream. What song would you play while driving your new car down the freeway? But remember that just looking at pictures is not enough. You have to get into the fantasy, really play it out in your mind in order to see if you harbor any conflicting vibrations.
Have fun!
Don't force yourself to visualize on some strict schedule. Do it as you would when you were a child. Do it when it feels right when you're ready to have some fun with it. The "work" is not in the visualizing, it's in paying attention to where that visualization takes you.
Take time out of your day to play a fantasia. What would your life really be like if you become the best version of you? Play until you can control the entire visualization, until you feel really good about everything you're experiencing, until it feels completely and totally RIGHT. And when it becomes a game, when you can easily see yourself having what you desire with no conflicting thoughts, a solid foundation of optimized blueprint as you want has already set.
